Call for Volunteers

The Foster Festival is seeking volunteers for our 2022 outdoor production of 1812 by Norm Foster, located at Fort George National Historic Site. Volunteers are an essential part of our organization, giving time, talent, and skills to our mission of producing engaging and entertaining Canadian theatre!

Successful volunteer candidates will work closely with the Box Office Manager, Mary Sword, and with the General Manager, Chelsea Wilson. Preference will be given to those who are available for the full run of the production. However, others with time conflicts for certain dates will also be considered.

All Foster Festival Volunteers received complimentary access to our shows.

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Concession Stand Volunteers: Volunteers assigned to this position will work closely with the Box Office Manager and the General Manager to sell food and/or drink to our patrons during our production of 1812.

Required Times:

  • For 1812 Experience Days: 5:30pm – 9:00pm every night of production run
  • For 1812 Non-Experience Days: 6:00pm – 9:00pm every night of production run


Qualifications:

  • Must be comfortable making sales and handling cash floats
  • Sales experience is an asset
  • Familiarity with the sales program Stripe is an asset
  • Familiarity with theatre is an asset
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Have a strong sense of organization and thrive in a supportive team environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Customer service experience is an asset
  • Ability to handle varied levels of multi-tasking and to adapt
  • Be able to follow through on assigned duties
  • Reliable transportation to and from Fort George is required
    •  

Number of Volunteers Needed for this Position: Two (2)

Usher Volunteers: Volunteers assigned this position will guide patrons through Fort George to the seating area, taking into account any special seating requirements (such as reserved seating) as will be explained by the Box Office Manager. These volunteers will also hand out programs to patrons, as well as set up and take down the seating area itself. These volunteers must be comfortable walking in the dark, guiding people to and from washrooms in the dark. Volunteers will be required to stay until after the performance to strike / take down the chairs and return them.

Required Times:

  • For 1812 Experience Days: 5:30pm – 10:00pm every night of the production run
  • For 1812 Non-Experience Days: 5:30pm – 10:00pm every night of production run

  • Familiarity with Theatre is an asset
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Thrive in a supportive team environment
  • Ability to handle varied levels of multi-tasking and to be adaptable
  • Be able to follow through on assigned duties
  • Must be comfortable with light manual labour
  • Reliable transportation to and from Fort George is required
    •  

Number of Volunteers Needed for this Position: Two (2)

50/50 Raffle Volunteers: Volunteers assigned this position will handle our 50/50 raffle ticket sales. These volunteers will handle cash transactions from patrons and will be responsible for documenting and retuning the cash payments to Foster Festival staff members.

Required Times:

  • For 1812 Experience Days: 5:30pm –9:00pm every night of production run
  • For 1812 Non-Experience Days: 6:00pm – 9:00pm every night of production run

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Theatre is an asset
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Sales experience is an asset
  • Customer service experience is an asset
  • Must be comfortable handling cash payments
  • Must be comfortable interacting with patrons in a positive and upbeat manner
  • Ability to handle varied levels of multi-tasking and to adapt
  • Be able to follow through on assigned duties
  • Reliable transportation to and from Fort George is required.

Requirements to be a Volunteer:

  • Be able to proficiently speak and write English
  • No active criminal charges
  • Have a positive attitude
    •  

COVID-19 Protocols:

The Foster Festival has an extensive COVID-19 Safety Measures Document. All staff, production team members, artists, and volunteers must adhere to the safety measures as outlined in this document. All staff, production team members, artists and volunteers will be given a copy of this document prior to signing any contract with the Festival or prior to any volunteer orientation.
