THEATRE TECHNICIAN – JOB DESCRIPTION
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS Friday, April 19, 2024 5:00PM (ET)

The Position of Theatre Technician at The Foster Festival for our 2024 Mainstage Summer Season. This position reports to the Artistic Associate and the Technical Director.

Candidates must be available for the full time period considered.

HOURS

  • 35 hours/week.
  • Evening and weekend work will be required during production
  • This is a 10-12 week position.
  • Dates: June 10-August 31, 2024
  • This position is pending funding by the Canada Summer Jobs Program

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Assist with the set-up and strike at each venue.
  • Loading and unloading elements for transport to and from each venue.
  • Attend meetings and trainings related to the position.
  • Assist with technical set-up and trouble-shooting for sound and/or lighting elements for each production.
  • Lighting & Sound Board Operator during production.
  • Possible construction or refurbishments of scenic or properties elements.
  • Actively participate in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Entry-level familiarity with theatre production and technical elements.
  • Entry-level familiarity with theatre safety procedures.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Eager to learn and accept direction.
  • Ability to do moderate lifting of equipment, set materials, boxes of materials, banners, etc.
  • Ability to handle varied levels of multi-tasking and to adapt to rapidly changing environments.
  • Must be comfortable working in a team oriented environment and able to work independently on assigned projects.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends where necessary.
  • Some experience with reading technical drawings is not required but is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License is a plus, reliable transportation to our offices downtown and to the Mandeville Theatre at Ridley College is required.

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident; and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations;
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
