SCENIC CARPENTER – JOB DESCRIPTION

The Position of Scenic Carpenter at The Foster Festival for our 2024 Mainstage Summer Season. This position reports to the Artistic Associate and the Technical Director.

Candidates must be available for the full time period considered.

HOURS

  • 35 hours/week
  • Will be required to work evenings and weekends
  • This is a 10-12 week position
  • Dates: May 20  – August 11, 2024
  • This position is pending funding by the Canada Summer Jobs Program

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Work with the creative team to build & source set pieces according to design & within budget.
  • Assist with costing potential options and materials.
  • Assist with creating a build plan, materials list, cut lists and build schedule.
  • Act as backstage crew during performances.
  • Assist with load ins/outs.
  • Assist with scenic painting and assist with large prop builds as time allows.
  • Assist with the poor weather plan to protect all backstage equipment and show materials.
  • Other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of theatre safety and power tool safety is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with construction tools and materials.
  • Basic understanding on how to create and follow a build plan is an asset.
  • Creative thinking to adapt to a unique theatre set up (site-specific).
  • Have a strong sense of organization and thrive in a supportive team environment.
  • Be able to follow through on assigned duties with a strong sense of self-direction and discretion.
  • Be punctual and reliable with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to meet deadlines and has an understanding of the importance of production deadlines.
  • Ability to handle varied levels of multi-tasking and to adapt to rapidly changing environments.
  • Physical ability to lift 50lbs will be considered an asset as you will be required to help with the set up and strike of each show.
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License is a plus, reliable transportation to our offices downtown and to the Mandeville Theatre at Ridley College is required.

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident; and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations;
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
